Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary

There are few occasions when I crave tomato juice or a Bloody Mary. Actually, there are three occasions when I crave tomato juice or a Bloody Mary…when I travel by airplane, when I am hanging out with my girlfriends (but only after some Margaritas!), and in the fall when I miss fresh tomatoes. Guess which occasion we are celebrating today? Since I am not traveling and am due for a night out with the girls, it must be fall!

This Bloody Mary is pretty close to the spicy classic…vodka, tomato juice, horseradish, and hot sauce – although I make mine less spicy than many restaurant bars do these days. The two ingredients that I think make this Bloody Mary taste just that much better though are lemon juice and olive juice (right out of the green olive jar). So, whether you are relaxing with your friends, taking a flight, or just miss fresh tomatoes, take some time out this weekend for a refreshing Bloody Mary!

Beat the Heat: Strawberry Lemonade

I am not complaining since others have had a much more difficult weather weekend than I have. I still have to combat this heat though. After texting back and forth with a friend yesterday, we determined that the only defense against this heat (110 degree heat index this weekend in Florida) was some homemade lemonade. So refreshing and easy to make. I jumped right on that bandwagon!

While I love lemonade, sometimes it doesn’t love me so I decided to sweeten it up with some seasonally sweet strawberries. Thirty minutes later…we have Strawberry Lemonade! Pick up some strawberries and lemons today…you won’t regret it.

It’s Hump Day! Fresh Squeezed Margaritas!

It’s Hump Day! That day of the week where we all start seeing the light at the end of the work week tunnel. What better way to celebrate this day than to make up a batch of the freshest, easiest and tastiest margaritas!

I don’t know about you but I have never been able to make a margarita that I am pleased with from a store bought mix. There is just something missing. I like that with this recipe I can control just how tart my drink is through the adding of more sugar or orange juice and of course, I can use my mood to determine how strong I want my margarita. Some days call for an extra shot of tequila and other days, when my mood is great; I leave the alcohol content alone and rim the glass with a mix of sugar and salt. What mood are you in today?

Fresh Squeezed Margaritas

1/2 Cup Fresh squeezed lime juice, about 4 limes

1/2 Cup Fresh squeezed lemon juice, about 3 limes

1/4 Cup Fresh squeezed orange juice, about 1large orange

1/3 Cup Sugar

1 Pinch Salt

3/4 Cup Tequila

3/4 Cup Triple sec

1/4 Cup Coarse salt for rim of glass

4 Lime wedges

  1. Combine lime, lemon, and orange juices. Add sugar and a pinch of salt. Mix well until sugar is dissolve. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, up to overnight.
  2. Strain juice mixture into a pitcher.
  3. Add tequila and triple sec. Stir well.
  4. Using a lime wedge, rim the glasses first with lime wedge then coarse salt.
  5. Pour margarita mix over ice. Serve immediately with a lime wedge.
